<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Nestled among verdant hills and terracotta rooftops, <strong>Sighisoara</strong> welcomes you like a fairytale come to life. This small Transylvanian town, considered<strong> the most beautiful village in Romania</strong>, retains its medieval charm intact within a still-inhabited fortress. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re planning a <strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/route-through-transylvania/">trip to Transylvania</a></em></strong>, dedicate at least a day to discovering Sighisoara: its cobbled streets, defensive towers, and colorful houses will make you feel like you&#8217;ve stepped back in time.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. The Clock Tower: the symbol of Sighisoara</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The <strong>Clock Tower </strong>is the city&#8217;s most iconic landmark. Built in the 14th century, it served as a defensive tower and the main gate of the fortress.<br/>Today, it houses a <strong>history museum</strong> and a terrace with one of the <strong>best panoramic views of Sighisoara.</strong> </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Admission</strong>: 12 Lei (about €2.50)<br/><strong>Closed on Mondays</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-6.jpg" alt="Sighisoara, Romania: What to see in a day" class="wp-image-20762" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-6.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-6-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">2. The Covered Staircase and the Hill Church</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most picturesque routes is climbing the <strong>Students&#8217; Covered Staircase</strong>, a wooden structure with over 170 steps that leads to the <strong>Church on the Hill</strong>.<br/>From there, you get a beautiful view of the old town and its historic cemetery, where the gravestones tell centuries of history.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">3. The Citadel Square</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The heart of <strong>Sighisoara</strong>&#8216;s historic center is <strong>Citadel Square</strong>, surrounded by colorful houses and cafes with terraces.<br/>Here you can feel the medieval essence: decorated facades, artisan shops, and a relaxed atmosphere ideal for stopping and enjoying a coffee or trying a local <strong>Langos</strong>.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-9.jpg" alt="Citadel Square, what to see in Sighisoara" class="wp-image-20764" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-9.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-9-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">4. Vlad Dracula&#8217;s House</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can&#8217;t leave without visiting the <strong>House of Vlad the Impaler</strong>, the historical figure who inspired the famous Count Dracula. Located right in the city center, it combines a restaurant and a small museum with an atmosphere that blends history and legend. It&#8217;s a perfect stop for lovers of Transylvanian myths. We had dinner there and it was a great experience. </p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">5. Medieval towers and walls</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Sighisoara</strong> retains part of its medieval defensive system with towers dedicated to the old guilds: the tailors&#8217; tower, the shoemakers&#8217; tower, the tinsmiths&#8217; tower, and the monk&#8217;s tower, among others.<br/>Walking along the walls offers <strong>unique views</strong> and the feeling of being inside a living fortress.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">6. Church of the Holy Trinity</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Across the Târnava Mare River lies the <strong>Church of the Holy Trinity</strong>, a 20th-century Orthodox gem.<br/>Its style contrasts with the old town, and its surroundings offer breathtaking panoramic views of <strong>Sighisoara </strong>at sunset.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-3.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-20766" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-3.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2025/11/Sighisoara-3-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">7. The Medieval Festival of Sighisoara</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you visit the city in summer, don&#8217;t miss the <strong>Sighisoara Medieval Festival</strong>, held at the end of July.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Tips for visiting Sighisoara</h2>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>You can easily get there from <strong>Brasov</strong> or <strong>Bucharest</strong> by car or tour.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/brasov/excursion-sighisoara/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=PostSighisoara">Day trip from Brasov </a></em></strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Staying in the historic center is a unique experience (although many old buildings don&#8217;t have elevators). We stayed at the <strong><em><a href="https://www.booking.com/hotel/ro/sighisoara.es.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2">Hotel Sighisoara </a></em></strong>right in the heart of the historic center, and it was a great experience! </li>

<li>Take your time exploring: the best of Sighisoara is best enjoyed by walking, observing, and stopping at every corner..</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Sighisoara</strong> is a medieval gem that seems frozen in time.<br/>Its cobblestone streets, historic towers, and legends make it an essential stop on any Transylvanian itinerary.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you fall in love with its charm, continue your journey to <strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/what-to-see-in-brasov-in-1-day-and-how-to-make-the-most-of-2-days-with-bran-and-peles/">Brasov</a></em></strong>, another city full of history and beauty.</p>
