<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Paris is full of spectacular dinners… but also of experiences that seem more special on Instagram than in reality.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Since we had already tried some of them before, this time we wanted to compare them to each other to answer a simple question:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>If we could only choose one for a special night… which one is really worth it?</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These were our favorites.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3a5.png" alt="🎥" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Watch the full video before you begin</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
https://youtu.be/jAWjymr5CN0
</div></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1. Dinner cruise on the Seine → The most romantic</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Crucero-con-cena-por-el-Sena.jpg" alt="Cena especial en París" class="wp-image-22216" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Crucero-con-cena-por-el-Sena.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Crucero-con-cena-por-el-Sena-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re looking for an anniversary dinner, a proposal, or just a quiet night out in Paris, this was our favorite.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best part wasn&#8217;t the food or the boat.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was that feeling of watching Paris gradually appear while you have dinner: the bridges, the lights reflected in the water and the slow rhythm of the night.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>We would choose it for:</strong> a romantic evening.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/paris/crucero-sena-torre-eiffel-cena/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postcenasespeciales">View prices and book</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And if you want to see another option of <a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/seine-river-dinner-cruise-in-paris/" type="post" id="8910">Dinner cruise on the Seine, this is the one we did last time</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dinner on a panoramic bus → Discover Paris while enjoying dinner</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/bustronome.jpg" alt="cena especial París" class="wp-image-22218" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/bustronome.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/bustronome-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On paper, it seemed strange.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After experiencing it, we understood that it&#8217;s not about the bus: it&#8217;s about exploring Paris while having dinner.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It surprised us more than expected because you never feel like you&#8217;re standing still. The city becomes part of the experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We would choose it for: a first trip or a farewell to Paris. <a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/dinner-bus-in-paris-bustronome/" type="post" id="14048">Here&#8217;s the full experience of dinner at Bustronome</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.getyourguide.es/paris-l16/bustronomy-una-forma-gourmet-original-de-descubrir-paris-t49190/?partner_id=JBOGQWX&amp;utm_medium=online_publ">View schedules and book</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The historic station restaurant → The most beautiful inside</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Le-Train-Blue.jpg" alt="Otra de las cenas especiales en París" class="wp-image-22220" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Le-Train-Blue.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/Le-Train-Blue-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This was probably the most unexpected experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Entering here feels more like traveling back in time than entering a restaurant.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We wouldn&#8217;t say it&#8217;s worth it just for the food..</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But yes, because of the place..</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>We would choose it for</em></strong>: lovers of places with history and atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.le-train-bleu.com/en/">View menu and book</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Dining inside the Eiffel Tower → The experience everyone dreams of</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/torre-eiffel.jpg" alt="cena en la Torre Eiffel, la más especial" class="wp-image-22223" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/torre-eiffel.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/torre-eiffel-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There&#8217;s something hard to explain.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s not just about the dinner. It&#8217;s perhaps the first thing that comes to mind when we talk about special dinners in Paris.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s about realizing you&#8217;re inside the Eiffel Tower. <a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/dinner-at-the-eiffel-tower/">Here&#8217;s the full experience of Dinner at the Eiffel Tower</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The food was a pleasant surprise, and the atmosphere was much more relaxed than we expected.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We would choose it for: an occasion you want to remember forever..</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/paris/cena-restaurante-torre-eiffel/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postcenasespeciales">View prices and book</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The most famous cabaret in Paris → The surprise of the trip</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/moulin-rouge.jpg" alt="Cena especial Moulin Rouge" class="wp-image-22225" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/moulin-rouge.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/moulin-rouge-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We went in expecting a very touristy experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And we left saying we&#8217;d be back.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was much more elegant, well-maintained, and impressive than we expected.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>We would choose it for</strong>: a different and special night.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/paris/entradas-moulin-rouge/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postcenasespeciales">View entry types</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">So… which one would we choose?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2764.png" alt="❤" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Romantic evening → <strong>Dinner on the Seine</strong><br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f389.png" alt="🎉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Celebration → <strong>Eiffel Tower</strong><br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f68d.png" alt="🚍" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> First time in Paris → <strong>Panoramic bus</strong><br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3db.png" alt="🏛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Place with more personality → <strong>Historic restaurant</strong><br><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2728.png" alt="✨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Surprise experience → <strong>Cabaret</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And now it&#8217;s your turn to choose:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>If you were in Paris tomorrow… which one would you book?</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Madrid has a captivating energy. Among its plazas, museums, and neighborhoods, there always seems to be something more to discover. But there&#8217;s something many travelers overlook: some of the most spectacular experiences a trip to Spain can be found just outside the city. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Less than two hours away, you&#8217;ll find castles that look like they&#8217;re straight out of Disney, medieval walls that can still be explored on foot, cities perched on cliffs, and villages where Don Quixote still seems to be fighting giants.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this guide we have gathered<strong> the 7 best day trips from Madrid</strong>, including options for independent travel, organized tours and practical tips for making the most of your time.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3a5.png" alt="🎥" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Watch the full video before you begin</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="Madrid es Solo el Principio | Las Rutas que Debes Hacer Sí o Sí" width="720" height="405" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/67a47j4h--E?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">1 and 2. Segovia and Ávila: castles, walls and a fairytale route</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/segovia11.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13691" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/segovia11.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/segovia11-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Normally, when people talk about day trips from Madrid, everyone starts in Toledo. This time, we decided to break with tradition and head north.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our first stop is… <strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/segovia-and-avila-spain/" type="post" id="13548">Segovia</a></em></strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And there&#8217;s something that happens as soon as you arrive: the Roman Aqueduct leaves you completely speechless. More than two thousand years of history stand before you, a structure built with over 20,000 granite blocks placed without mortar.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But if there&#8217;s one place that makes everyone pull out their cameras, it&#8217;s the Alcázar.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">With its towers and dark roofs, it looks like an impossible castle… and that very image was one of the inspirations for Disney&#8217;s Cinderella Castle.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>Then comes Ávila</em></strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The change of scenery is complete.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You go from a fairytale setting to a city encased within a stone fortress.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its medieval walls are among the best preserved in Europe, and walking along them completely changes your perspective of the place.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get there independently</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>For Segovia:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Take the AVANT, AVLO, OUIGO, or AVE train from Madrid-Chamartín.</li>

<li>Approximate travel time: 28 minutes.</li>

<li>From Guiomar, take bus line 11.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>For Ávila</strong>:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Medium-distance train from Príncipe Pío station.</li>

<li>Approximate travel time: 1.5 hours.</li>

<li>Bus from Estación Sur (South Station)</li>

<li>Travel time: Approximately 80 minutes.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">To combine both: Avanza bus company</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Tip: Doing both on the same day independently requires careful planning.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Is it worth taking an organized tour from Madrid?</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes, this combination works for that.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The advantage isn&#8217;t just transportation: it&#8217;s avoiding downtime between connections and truly making the most of your day.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Toledo: the city of three cultures</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/toledo.jpg" alt="Excursiones desde Madrid por el día" class="wp-image-22112" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/toledo.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/toledo-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If Segovia seems like a fairy tale, Toledo feels like a historical novel.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It was the capital of Spain for centuries and one of those places where you truly understand that Europe was built by blending cultures.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Christians, Jews, and Muslims coexisted here for centuries, leaving a mark that can still be felt walking its streets.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Entering through the Bisagra Gate and getting lost in its alleyways is part of the experience.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Primate Cathedral impresses from the very first moment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then you discover hidden gems like:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Santa María la Blanca Synagogue</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">San Martín Bridge</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Viewpoints overlooking the Tagus River</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our advice: stay until sunset. That&#8217;s when Toledo completely transforms.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get to Toledo from Madrid</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>AVANT train from Madrid-Puerta de Atocha.</li>

<li>Time: 30–33 minutes.</li>

<li>From the station walk or take the bus to the center.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/madrid/excursion-toledo-dia-completo/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postexcursionesmadrid">Excursion to Toledo</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Consuegra: the land of giants</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/consuegra.jpg" alt="Consuegra, desde Madrid por el día" class="wp-image-22114" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/consuegra.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/consuegra-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If there&#8217;s one image that can sum up Spain, it&#8217;s probably this one.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">White windmills lined up on a hill.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The very giants Don Quixote fought against.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Consuegra is probably the most photogenic place on this list.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Some windmills still have historic machinery, and walking past them as the wind blows is something special.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get there</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Bus from Estación Sur.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Approximately 2 hours.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our recommendation:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Rental car</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Organized tour</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can rent the car at <strong><em><a href="https://www.discovercars.com/go/europa">Discovercars</a></em></strong>, It&#8217;s a good option to make this visit, or</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Salamanca: the golden city</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/salamanca-7.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-13648" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/salamanca-7.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/salamanca-7-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are beautiful cities. But first there is <strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/what-to-see-and-do-in-salamanca/" type="post" id="13494">Salamanca</a></em></strong>. Everything seems to shine.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The golden stone changes completely depending on the light of day, making the historic center truly unique.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Plaza Mayor is one of those places where you sit and understand why so many travelers end up staying longer than planned.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Don&#8217;t miss:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">University of Salamanca</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Old Cathedral</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">New Cathedral</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Plaza Mayor</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get there</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>ALVIA train from Chamartín.</li>

<li>Approximately 1 hour and 40 minutes.</li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">El Escorial: the giant monastery</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/escorial.jpg" alt="Excursión desde Madrid" class="wp-image-22117" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/escorial.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/06/escorial-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There are places that impress with their beauty.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">El Escorial impresses with its scale.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Philip II envisioned it as a symbol of the power of the Spanish Empire, and it still conveys that feeling.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most striking features:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Historical Library</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Royal Pantheon</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Monumental Architecture</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get there</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Cercanías rail C-8.</li>

<li>Approximately 1 hour.</li>

<li>Bus 611 or 614 (from Moncloa interchange)</li>

<li>Also approximately 1 hour</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Cuenca seems impossible.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The famous Hanging Houses defy all logic.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The entire historic center seems to grow from the rock.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Walking across the San Pablo Bridge is one of those experiences you remember long after your trip.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">How to get there</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>AVE, Avant, or Ouigo trains from Madrid-Atocha.</li>

<li>55 minutes – 1 hour.</li>

<li>Bus or taxi to the historic center.</li>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Frequently Asked Questions</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">What is the best day trip from Madrid?</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you only have one day: Toledo.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Which one is the most spectacular?</h3>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Which one requires less organization?</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Escorial.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Which one has better photos?</h3>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Conclusion</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Madrid deserves several days.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But if you have time for even a day trip, you&#8217;ll discover a completely different side of Spain.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Castles, medieval cities, historic windmills, towering monasteries, and landscapes that seem unreal.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And the best part is that it&#8217;s all just a few hours away.</p>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Frequently Asked Questions:</h1>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How many days does it take to travel around southern Italy?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ideally, you should allow 15 to 20 days to combine Rome, Naples, the Amalfi Coast, and Puglia at a relaxed pace. If you only have that many days, we recommend Calabria and Sicily on a separate itinerary.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Is it worth exploring southern Italy by car?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes, especially in Puglia and the Amalfi Coast, where many towns and viewpoints are much more enjoyable on a road trip.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Where is the best place to rent a car in Italy?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best option is to pick it up when leaving Rome and return it in Bari or again in Rome depending on the return price.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">What is the best time to travel to southern Italy?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">May, June and September are usually the best months due to pleasant weather and less tourism.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many travelers arrive in Paris with one very clear idea: to visit the Palace of Versailles. And yes, it&#8217;s impressive. But after visiting both, there&#8217;s one that surprised us much more than we expected: the Palace of Fontainebleau. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Less touristy, much calmer and with a much more authentic feeling. Here you don&#8217;t feel like you&#8217;re walking through a museum full of people where you move forward in line seeing rooms from afar. Fontainebleau really feels like a lived-in place. And it makes sense: it was the residence of 34 French kings and 2 emperors, including Napoleon Bonaparte. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The experience is completely different. More relaxed, more intimate, and, honestly, much more emotional. There are moments where you literally feel the weight of the story upon you. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re thinking of visiting Fontainebleau from Paris, we&#8217;ll tell you how to get there, what to see, how much it costs, and whether Fontainebleau is really worth visiting.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="¿Es mejor Fontainebleau que Versalles? El palacio cerca de París que sorprende" width="720" height="405" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/qk53ePTXa_I?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Why Fontainebleau surprised us more than Versailles</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-3.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22016" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-3.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-3-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Versailles is world-famous. Fontainebleau, on the other hand, remains one of those places that many tourists still overlook. And that&#8217;s precisely where part of its charm lies. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">From the moment we entered, we felt a different energy. Much less chaos, fewer large groups, and more freedom to explore the palace at your own pace. There are rooms where you can stop for several minutes simply observing details without anyone pushing you to move forward. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Furthermore, Fontainebleau has something difficult to explain: it feels more human.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s not just a pretty palace. It is a place where decisive moments in French history occurred. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And that becomes very real when you arrive at the Throne Room or the famous Abdication Room. There you understand that you are standing exactly where Napoleon abdicated before going into exile. These are the kinds of places that make you feel small in the face of history, but also fortunate to be able to see it so closely. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The visit becomes much more immersive than in other palaces near Paris.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">A much less touristy and more authentic palace</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the things we liked most was precisely that: Fontainebleau still retains a certain tranquility.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">While Versailles can feel exhausting depending on the season, here everything is more relaxed. You can stroll through the galleries at your leisure, sit in the gardens, or simply lose yourself wandering among the ponds. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even the photos are more enjoyable.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And of course… it&#8217;s impossible not to mention the famous Horseshoe Staircase, the symbol of the palace and one of the most impressive spots in Fontainebleau. This is where Napoleon bid farewell to his guard before departing into exile. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Today everyone wants their picture taken there… and honestly, with good reason.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fontainebleau-2.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22018" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fontainebleau-2.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fontainebleau-2-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">How to get to the Palace of Fontainebleau from Paris</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Getting to Fontainebleau from<strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/complete-guide-paris-5-days/" type="post" id="11082"> Paris</a></em></strong> is much easier than it seems. In fact, it&#8217;s one of the best day trips you can take from the French capital. </p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Take the train from Gare de Lyon (the easiest option)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most practical and economical way to visit Fontainebleau independently is by train.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Step by step</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Depart from Gare de Lyon in Paris.</li>

<li>Take Line R towards Montargis or Montereau.</li>

<li>Get off at Fontainebleau-Avon.</li>

<li>The journey takes approximately 40 minutes.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Once you arrive at the station, you can take bus Line 1 which drops you off practically in front of the palace.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Approximate prices</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Train: from €5 per journey.</li>

<li>Bus: approx. €2</li>

<li>If you have a Navigo pass, the journey is usually included.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The truth is that the whole route is quite simple and well connected.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Arriving by car from Paris</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you prefer more freedom, going by car is also a very good option.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The journey from Paris takes approximately one hour, depending on traffic. Having a car also allows you to make the most of the day by visiting other nearby places. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many travelers combine Fontainebleau with:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Vaux-le-Vicomte</li>

<li>Barbizon</li>

<li>Provins</li>

<li>small villages of Île-de-France</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">There is paid parking right in front of the palace, which makes visiting much easier.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Organized excursions to Fontainebleau</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you don&#8217;t want to worry about schedules, trains or logistics, there are also organized tours from Paris.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most include:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>round trip transportation</li>

<li>audio guide</li>

<li>tickets</li>

<li>leisure</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In addition, many <strong><em><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/paris/excursion-palacios-fontainebleau-vaux-vicomte/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postfontainebleau">tours combine Fontainebleau with the Château de Vaux-le-Vicomte </a></em></strong>in the same day, and honestly, it&#8217;s a spectacular plan.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">What to see at the Palace of Fontainebleau</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although many people think that Fontainebleau is &#8220;just another castle&#8221;, the reality is that it has some of the most important historical sites in France.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And the best part is that you can explore them without the feeling of overcrowding that is common in other famous palaces.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The impressive Horseshoe Staircase</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Horseshoe Staircase is probably the most iconic image of the Palace of Fontainebleau.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Majestic, elegant, and enormous.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">But besides being beautiful, it has enormous historical significance: this is where Napoleon said goodbye to the Imperial Guard before going into exile in 1814.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">When you know the history and then stand there in front of it, the place changes completely.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s not just &#8220;a pretty staircase.&#8221; It&#8217;s living history. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fonatinebleau.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22014" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fonatinebleau.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/Fonatinebleau-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Throne Room and the Abdication Room</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These were, for us, the most impressive rooms of the entire visit.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Especially because Fontainebleau preserves the only authentic throne room in France that remains intact.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And then there&#8217;s the Abdication Hall.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Knowing that Napoleon signed his abdication there makes the moment feel so much more real. It&#8217;s one of those places where you automatically lower your voice even if no one is saying anything to you. </p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The gardens and the Grand Canal</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After exploring so much opulence, stepping out into the gardens completely changes the energy of the place.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And honestly… it was one of our favorite parts.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Among the paths, ponds and the enormous Grand Canal, you can perfectly understand why so many kings preferred Fontainebleau as their residence.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Everything feels much more natural and less rigid than Versailles.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And yes… they will also quickly discover that the real owners of the place are the ducks.<img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f602.png" alt="😂" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-4.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-22020" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-4.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/05/fontainebleau-4-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">How much does it cost to visit Fontainebleau</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The Palace of Fontainebleau is considerably cheaper than other major attractions near Paris.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Tickets</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>General admission: €17</li>

<li>Under 18s: Free</li>

<li>EU residents under 25s: Free</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="http://chateaudefontainebleau.fr/en/">Oficial web Fontainebleau Castle</a></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Free admission</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Admission is usually free on the first Sunday of each month, except during the summer months.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, it&#8217;s advisable to check for updated opening hours and prices before visiting, as they may change depending on the season.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/fontainebleau/entrada-palacio-fontainebleau/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postfontainebleau">Book your ticket for the Palace of Fontainebleau</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Is Fontainebleau worth visiting from Paris?</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes. Absolutely.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In fact, if you&#8217;ve already visited Versailles, Fontainebleau might surprise you even more.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Because here you don&#8217;t just visit a stunning palace. You also have:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Fewer tourists</li>

<li>More tranquility</li>

<li>A more authentic experience</li>

<li>A wealth of real history linked to Napoleon</li>

<li>Enormous gardens where you&#8217;ll truly want to linger</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We went thinking it would be a &#8220;side&#8221; excursion and ended up leaving fascinated.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Fontainebleau vs Versalles</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you are looking for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Vast gardens and spectacle → Versailles</li>

<li>A more tranquil and authentic experience → Fontainebleau</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Versailles impresses with its scale. Fontainebleau captivates with its atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And honestly, we think Fontainebleau is far more underrated than it deserves.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">How to combine Fontainebleau with Vaux-le-Vicomte</h1>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you have time, visiting Fontainebleau and Vaux-le-Vicomte on the same day is one of the best day trips from Paris.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Plus, Vaux-le-Vicomte has an incredible history: it was the palace that inspired the construction of Versailles.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Many travelers do the following:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Fontainebleau in the morning.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Vaux-le-Vicomte in the afternoon.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And it&#8217;s a spectacular combination!r si te gustan los castillos franceses y la historia.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h1 class="wp-block-heading">Tips for visiting Fontainebleau</h1>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Try to arrive early to enjoy the palace with fewer crowds.</li>

<li>Set aside at least half a day for your visit.</li>

<li>Wear comfortable shoes because the gardens are enormous.</li>

<li>If possible, avoid weekends during peak season.</li>

<li>The stroll through the gardens is well worth it, even if you don&#8217;t go inside the palace.</li>

<li>If you have Navigo, check because the train fare is likely included.</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re looking for what to see in Madrid in 5 days, this itinerary is designed to explore the city logically, avoiding unnecessary travel and combining must-see sights with more authentic areas.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In my case, following a route organized by zones made the trip much more meaningful: you walk less, see more, and enjoy each day much more.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> This itinerary answers what most people are looking for:<br><strong>See the essential sights of Madrid in 5 days without wasting time.</strong></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Madrid-8.jpg" alt="Qué ver en Madrid en 5 días" class="wp-image-21879" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Madrid-8.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Madrid-8-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<div style="height:58px" aria-hidden="true" class="wp-block-spacer"></div>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4cc.png" alt="📌" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> What to see in Madrid in 5 days (quick summary)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you just want a clear summary of what to see in Madrid in 5 days, this is the best optimized route:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Day 1: Gran Vía, Puerta del Sol, Plaza Mayor, and the Royal Palace</li>

<li>Day 2: Interior of the Royal Palace, Almudena Cathedral, and historic neighborhoods</li>

<li>Day 3: Museums (Prado, Reina Sofía, Thyssen), Cibeles Palace, Puerta de Alcalá, and Retiro Park</li>

<li>Day 4: Malasaña, Chueca, and local markets</li>

<li>Day 5: Bernabéu Stadium, Madrid Río, and alternative options or excursions outside the city.</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" />This itinerary is organized by zones to minimize travel and make the most of each day.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How to organize a trip to Madrid in 5 days</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best way to organize a 5-day trip to Madrid is to divide the city into zones and dedicate each day to a specific area:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Historic center on the first day</li>

<li>Royal Palace area and traditional neighborhoods on the second day</li>

<li>Museums and Retiro Park on the third day</li>

<li>Modern neighborhoods on the fourth day</li>

<li>Flexible plan or excursions on the fifth day</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This allows you to see more places in less time and avoid unnecessary travel.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re wondering <strong>what to see in Budva</strong>, you&#8217;ve come to the right place. This coastal city in Montenegro combines history, spectacular beaches, and a lively atmosphere, making it one of the most complete destinations in the Balkans. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you&#8217;re planning a trip to Montenegro, this guide tells you <strong>what to see in Budva in 2 days</strong>, with real recommendations and no fluff.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">

</div></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4cd.png" alt="📍" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" />Is Budva worth visiting?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes — and more than it seems.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Budva brings together:</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">• Over 2,500 years of history<br>• Hidden beaches<br>• A relaxed atmosphere (and also lively when you want it)</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In a small area, you get very different experiences.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3e8.png" alt="🏨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Where to stay in Budva</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A great option is to stay within the old town.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>You&#8217;re surrounded by history</li>

<li>Everything is within walking distance</li>

<li>Live the complete experience</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We stayed at the <a href="https://www.booking.com/hotel/me/astoria.es.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2">Astoria Hotel</a>, with direct access to the beach and a very nice atmosphere.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3db.png" alt="🏛" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> What to see in Budva (must-sees)</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">1.Old Town (Stari Grad)</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The heart of the city.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Cobblestone streets</li>

<li>Venetian influence</li>

<li>Historic city walls</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best thing: getting lost without a destination.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">2.Main churches</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Church of St. John</li>

<li>Church of the Holy Trinity</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Two distinct styles that reflect the history of the place.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">3. Budva Citadel</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Entry is paid, but it&#8217;s worth it..</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> The best views: orange roofs + the Adriatic Sea.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/monetengro-5.jpg" alt="Qué ver en Budva" class="wp-image-21655" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/monetengro-5.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/monetengro-5-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3d6.png" alt="🏖" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Beaches you can&#8217;t miss</h2>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Mogren Beach</h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A few minutes&#8217; walk away.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Two connected coves</li>

<li>Crystal-clear water</li>

<li>A more tranquil atmosphere</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Ideal for spending several hours without noticing.</p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading">Slovenska Beach</h3>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Long, urban beach stretching over 1.5 km</li>

<li>Located opposite Budva, easily accessible from the town center</li>

<li>A mix of sand and small pebbles</li>

<li>Live promenade with bars, restaurants, and shops</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f305.png" alt="🌅" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Seafront promenade and atmosphere</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Unlike the old town:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>More modern</li>

<li>More activity</li>

<li>Bars and restaurants</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Perfect for a sunset walk.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4f8.png" alt="📸" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Unmissable excursion: Sveti Stefan</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most famous postcard of Montenegro.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Island connected by a path</li>

<li>Stone houses with reddish roofs</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Even if you don&#8217;t go in, it&#8217;s worth seeing.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f35d.png" alt="🍝" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Where to eat in Budva</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Clear recommendation: have dinner in the old town.</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Intimate atmosphere</li>

<li>Illuminated streets</li>

<li>Much more special</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/23f1.png" alt="⏱" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> How many days to stay?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> 2 days are enough for:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Explore the old town</li>

<li>Enjoy the beaches</li>

<li>Experience the city&#8217;s contrasts</li>
</ul>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/2728.png" alt="✨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> Conclusion</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Budva is more than just beaches.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s a destination that combines:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>History</li>

<li>Landscapes</li>

<li>Different travel styles</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Everything in one place.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kotor in Montenegro looks like a fjord… but it isn&#8217;t. And yet, it achieves something difficult: surprising even before you fully understand it. Located in Montenegro, this destination combines history, nature, and a very particular atmosphere that makes many wonder if it&#8217;s worth including in their trip. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We spent three days in Kotor to find out, and in this article we tell you what to see, what to do, how much it costs and what experiences are really worth it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kotor video</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">
<iframe loading="lazy" title="KOTOR. La bahía más espectacular de Europa está en Montenegro" width="720" height="405" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ZYbv0vQFssg?feature=oembed" frameborder="0" allow="accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share" referrerpolicy="strict-origin-when-cross-origin" allowfullscreen></iframe>
</div></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kotor&#8217;s Old Town: getting lost is the best plan</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The moment you step through one of the gates of Kotor&#8217;s old town in Montenegro, the feeling is clear: you are traveling back in time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The narrow cobblestone streets, the natural wear of the buildings, and the lack of a rigid structure all invite one very specific thing: to wander aimlessly. There&#8217;s no need to follow an itinerary here. In fact, the best thing to do is simply let yourself be carried away. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Among small squares, local shops, and quiet corners, the atmosphere perfectly blends history with everyday life. It&#8217;s not an artificial stage set for tourists, but a place where the city still thrives: laundry hanging out to dry, cats on street corners, and neighbors coming and going from their homes. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the key points is the<strong> Plaza de Armas</strong>, the true heart of the old town. From there, you can walk to the <strong><em>Cathedral of Saint Tryphon</em></strong>, one of the city&#8217;s most iconic buildings, which is imposing even without going inside. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Furthermore, the old town changes completely depending on the time of day:<br data-start="1692" data-end="1695" />in the morning it is quiet and peaceful, while in the afternoon and evening it comes alive with more activity and atmosphere.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-5.jpg" alt="Kotor Montenegro, Old Town" class="wp-image-21691" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-5.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-5-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Touring the bay by boat: the unmissable experience</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em>If there is one activity that truly makes a difference, it is touring the Bay of Kotor by boat</em></strong>, <strong><em>something unmissable in Montenegro.</em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Seeing Kotor from the water completely changes your perspective. As you move further away, you gain a better understanding of the scale of the place. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">During the tour you can discover unique spots, such as old submarine bases or the famous <strong><em>Blue Cave,</em></strong> where the water has an intense, almost unreal color.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s a complete experience: scenery, movement, and a sense of exploration.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our recommendation: if you can, definitely include it in your trip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/kotor/paseo-barco-privado-bahia-kotor/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postKotor">Book your private boat tour of Kotor Bay</a></em></strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/kotor/excursion-cueva-azul-nuestra-senora-rocas/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postKotor">Book a tour to the Blue Cave and Our Lady of the Rocks</a></em></strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor.jpg" alt="Virgin of the Rocks, Perast. Bay of Kotor, Montenegro " class="wp-image-21697" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">To climb the Fortress of San Juan or not?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the most popular plans in Kotor, Montenegro is to climb up to the<strong><em> Fortress of St. John</em></strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The views from the top are spectacular, with the entire bay unfolding before you. However, it&#8217;s not a plan for everyone. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The climb has over 1,300 steps, is challenging, and costs approximately €15. Even so, you can enjoy great views along the way without having to reach the top. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Our recommendation is clear:<br data-start="2292" data-end="2295" />If you enjoy challenges and panoramic views, it might be worthwhile. But if you prefer a more relaxed trip, it&#8217;s not essential to enjoy Kotor. </p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kOTOR-4.jpg" alt="Kotor bay" class="wp-image-21693" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kOTOR-4.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kOTOR-4-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The cable car: the comfortable alternative with views</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For those looking for an easier option, the Kotor cable car is a great alternative.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In just a few minutes you go from sea level to the mountains, with views that gradually open up over the bay. The price is around €20 round trip. <a href="https://www.kotorcablecar.me/">Web cable car</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At the top, in addition to the views, there are areas to relax and an unexpected activity: an alpine roller coaster. It&#8217;s short but fun, and costs around €8 per person. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s a different experience that adds a unique touch to the trip.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-2.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-21695" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-2.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-2-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">The Bay of Kotor, Montenegro: what really makes this destination special</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Beyond the old town, what defines Kotor is its bay.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although many compare it to a fjord, it isn&#8217;t actually one. However, the combination of high mountains plunging directly into the water creates a unique landscape in Europe. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The best part is that you don&#8217;t need elaborate plans to enjoy it. Walking along the water, sitting and observing, or simply strolling along it is enough.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Each moment of the day offers a different perspective:<br data-start="3493" data-end="3496" />the calm morning, the afternoon with a warmer light, and a perfect setting for photography.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kotor is not just what you see, but how it feels to be there.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Perast: el contraste perfecto</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just 20 minutes from Kotor, Perast offers a completely different atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s quieter, with less activity and a much more relaxed pace. Here, the plan is simple: walk, sit by the water, and enjoy. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Opposite Perast lies one of its greatest attractions: the island of Our Lady of the Rocks.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This is an artificial island with a very unique history, built stone by stone over centuries. The visit is brief but very special, offering a different perspective of the bay. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em><a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/kotor/excursion-cueva-azul-nuestra-senora-rocas/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postKotor">It&#8217;s a perfect excursion to spend a few hours on.</a></em></strong></p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-8.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-21699" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-8.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/Kotor-8-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Kotor Serpentine: Views with conditions</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Another interesting plan is to go up the Kotor Serpentine road for great views.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The scenic road offers spectacular views… but it also has its challenges. It&#8217;s narrow, winding, and requires attentive driving. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Furthermore, the weather has a significant impact. On cloudy or rainy days, the experience loses much of its appeal. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If the weather is good, it can be one of the best viewpoints in the area.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Beaches near Kotor: a relaxing plan</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although Kotor in Montenegro is not a beach destination per se, there are nearby options for relaxation.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Dobrota is one of the most accessible, peaceful, and comfortable. Bajova Kula, on the other hand, offers a more natural and less urban environment.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">These are simple plans that help balance the trip between sightseeing and rest.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kotor-6.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-21701" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kotor-6.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/04/kotor-6-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">How much does it cost to travel to Kotor?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Kotor is a relatively affordable destination, especially when compared to Western Europe.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Accommodation: Here&#8217;s the one we stayed at, <strong><em><a href="https://www.booking.com/hotel/me/apartments-time.es.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2">Apartments Time</a></em></strong>, moderately priced.<br />Food: Prices vary depending on the restaurant; there are plenty of options.<br />Activities: Between €8 and €20 depending on the activity.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">However, within the Balkans, it can be somewhat more expensive than other destinations in the region.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Is Kotor overcrowded?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Yes, but only at certain times.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The arrival of cruise ships can make the city crowded for a few hours each day. However, if you choose your times wisely, you can enjoy a much more peaceful atmosphere. Are you also going to visit <strong><em><a href="https://europaacompanada.com/en/budva-what-to-see-in-2-days-montenegro/" id="21725">Budva</a></em></strong>?</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity" />

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Conclusion: Is Kotor worth it?</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After three days, the answer is clear: yes, it&#8217;s worth it.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Not only for its beauty, but also for how easy it is to enjoy. Kotor combines history, nature, and experiences without the need for a rigid itinerary. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can stroll through medieval streets in the morning and explore the bay in the afternoon. That balance is what makes it special. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And above all, it&#8217;s a destination that invites something increasingly rare: taking your time.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Montenegro, an overlooked European country. Europe is full of iconic destinations like France, Italy, and Spain. However, there are still countries that remain off the radar of most travelers, despite offering spectacular landscapes and a rich cultural heritage. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of them is Montenegro: a small country on the Adriatic coast that combines mountains, medieval cities and wild nature within very short distances.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Video and map</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"><div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before getting into the itinerary, a key point for organizing your trip: Internet!</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong><em><a href="https://holafly.sjv.io/WOOOJX">Holafly eSIMs</a></em></strong>, digital SIM cards that can be installed in minutes and that for us are essential during any trip, are the best option to have unlimited internet access.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They allow you to have internet as soon as you arrive, without needing to look for physical SIM cards. Unlimited data in more than 200 destinations.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">They also include the Always On feature: an active connection with an extra 1GB per month after your plan ends. And you have the option of Holafly Plans, a monthly subscription plan for 160 destinations, ideal if you’re a frequent traveler.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On a trip like Montenegro, with remote areas and constant transfers, having continuous connection made all the difference. For this trip, you can use the <strong><em><a href="https://holafly.sjv.io/WOOOJX">Montenegro eSIM</a></em></strong>, or the regional <strong><em><a href="https://holafly.sjv.io/WOOOJX">Balkans eSIM</a></em></strong> if you plan to visit other countries in the area.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A road trip through the most beautiful villages in France is a dream come true.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">France is one of those destinations that seems made for leisurely exploration. Half-timbered houses, cobbled streets, and villages straight out of a fairytale make every stop special. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On this road trip through France, we explore some of the country&#8217;s most beautiful towns and cities, passing through Champagne and Alsace, until we reach Strasbourg and end at one of the most impressive palaces near Paris.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It&#8217;s a perfect itinerary to do in 7 days, combining medieval villages, historic cities and vineyard landscapes.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3a5.png" alt="🎥" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> A tour of the most beautiful villages in France (video)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before starting with the complete guide, here you can watch the video of this <strong>road trip through some of the most beautiful villages in France</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In it, we show the full route, the villages of <strong>Alsace</strong>, the <strong>Christmas markets</strong>, the vineyard landscapes, and all the places we visited during the trip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/25b6.png" alt="▶" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Video of the Route Through France</strong></p>

https://youtu.be/b_g8m_WHIS8
</div></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In the video, you’ll see places such as <strong>Troyes, Colmar, Eguisheim, Turckheim, Riquewihr, Kaysersberg, Ribeauvillé, Strasbourg, and the Palace of Fontainebleau</strong>, along with tips for planning the route.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f697.png" alt="🚗" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Car Rental to Travel Around France</strong> </h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">For this route, we decided to <strong>rent a car</strong>, as we believe <strong>road trips through villages are an excellent option</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Traveling by car allows you to explore the region with complete freedom, stop in the villages that catch your attention the most, and adapt the pace of the trip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">We booked the vehicle through <strong>DiscoverCars</strong>, a platform that compares different rental companies and makes it easy to choose the best option based on your dates and destination.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/27a1.png" alt="➡" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.discovercars.com/go/europa">Rent a Car with a Discount on DiscoverCars</a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The process is very simple:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Choose the pickup and drop-off location</li>

<li>Select dates and times</li>

<li>Compare models and prices</li>

<li>Add the recommended insurance coverage</li>

<li>Confirm the reservation online</li>
</ul>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Itinerary Through the Most Beautiful Villages in France</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Circular route:</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Paris → Troyes → Mulhouse → Eguisheim → Colmar → Turckheim → Riquewihr → Kaysersberg → Ribeauvillé → Strasbourg → Fontainebleau → Paris</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Troyes, One of the Best-Preserved Medieval Cities in France</strong> </h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Troyes was the <strong>first stop of the trip</strong>, about <strong>170 km from Paris</strong>, in the <strong>Champagne region</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This medieval city is famous for its <strong>leaning half-timbered houses</strong>, <strong>cobblestone streets</strong>, and <strong>squares full of history</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Among the places you shouldn’t miss:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Cathedral of Saint Peter and Saint Paul</li>

<li>Church of Saint Madeleine</li>

<li>The medieval historic center</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Walking around <strong>Troyes</strong> is an experience in itself: <strong>hidden courtyards, colorful façades, and architecture that seems frozen in time</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you visit the city in <strong>December</strong>, you’ll also find a <strong>beautiful Christmas market</strong> that fills the squares with lights and traditional stalls.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Where to stay in Troyes</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Recommended hotel in the historic center:</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3e8.png" alt="🏨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong><a href="https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/best-western.es.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2">Best Western Premier de La Poste &amp; Spa</a></strong><br></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Mulhouse and Its Unique Museums in Europe</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The next stop was <strong>Mulhouse</strong>, in the <strong>Alsace region</strong>, about <strong>300 km from Troyes</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Although its historic center is small, the city is known for hosting <strong>some of the most important museums in Europe</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Mulhouse Automobile Museum</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is <strong>the largest private collection of classic cars in the world</strong>, featuring historic vehicles, luxury models, and <strong>Bugatti</strong> masterpieces.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4b0.png" alt="💰" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.musee-automobile.fr/">Approximate entrance fee: €18</a></p>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Train Museum</strong></h3>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">One of the <strong>most important railway museums in Europe</strong>, featuring <strong>original locomotives and train cars from different eras</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f4b0.png" alt="💰" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.citedutrain.com/">Approximate entrance fee: €16 </a></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">After the visit, we continued toward <strong>one of the most beautiful villages in Alsace</strong>.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>Eguisheim, One of the Most Picturesque Villages in France</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Eguisheim was <strong>our base for three nights</strong> while exploring several nearby villages.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">This small <strong>Alsatian village</strong> is surrounded by <strong>vineyards</strong> and is part of the <strong>Alsace Wine Route</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its most curious feature is that the village is organized in <strong>concentric circular streets around the central square</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Among the highlights:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Half-timbered houses in pastel colors</li>

<li>Central square with the <strong>Castle of the Counts of Eguisheim</strong></li>

<li>Saint-Léon Chapel with views over the vineyards</li>
</ul>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is also said to have inspired the village in Disney’s film <strong>“Beauty and the Beast.”</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At night, the atmosphere becomes especially magical, when the tourists leave and the village regains its tranquility.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Where to stay in Eguisheim</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Bed &amp; Breakfast where we stayed:</strong></p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f3e8.png" alt="🏨" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /><strong><a href="https://www.booking.com/hotel/fr/hostellerie-du-pape.en.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2">La Ferme du Pape</a></strong></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Colmar, the Jewel of Alsace</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Francia-2.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-21566" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Francia-2.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/Francia-2-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just <strong>6 km from Eguisheim</strong> lies <strong>Colmar</strong>, one of the most famous destinations in <strong>Alsace</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its historic center is a <strong>perfect blend of a city and a medieval village</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most famous area is <strong>La Petite Venise</strong>, with canals lined by colorful houses and balconies full of flowers.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><strong>Other highlights:</strong></p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Church of Saint Martin</li>

<li>Perfectly preserved medieval houses</li>

<li>Historic squares and markets</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">At night, the lighting of the <strong>old town</strong> creates a very special atmosphere, especially during the <strong>Christmas market</strong>.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is characterized by:</p>

<ul class="wp-block-list">
<li>Its original medieval gates</li>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is a <strong>small and peaceful village</strong>, perfect for wandering around without any rush.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An important advantage is that there are <strong>free parking areas at the entrance of the village</strong>, which makes the visit much easier if you are traveling by car.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Riquewihr and Kaysersberg</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">What to see in Sofia in two days. Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, is one of the oldest cities in Europe and also one of the most affordable to visit. Located in the west of the country, near Serbia and North Macedonia, it combines Roman ruins, Orthodox churches, socialist-era architecture, and monumental buildings. </p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">In this practical guide we tell you what to see in Sofia in 2 days, with a walking itinerary, approximate distances and real tips to organize your trip.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">And we&#8217;ll tell you something in advance: if you can, stay for 3 days.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f5fa.png" alt="🗺" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <strong>Map of the itinerary: what to see in Sofia in two days</strong></h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here you can see the complete route organized by days, with all the points marked so you can easily follow it on foot.</p>

<iframe loading="lazy" src="https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/embed?mid=142fpngBZ4MdMTFy0RlADP1eGvVueUkM&#038;ehbc=2E312F" width="640" height="480"></iframe>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Day 1 in Sofia: walking itinerary through the historic center</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/11-Sofia.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-21456" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/11-Sofia.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/11-Sofia-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Most of the stops on the first day can be explored on foot. If you stay near Vitosha Boulevard, almost everything is within easy walking distance.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Vitosha Boulevard</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The city’s main pedestrian street. It’s the best place to start getting a feel for Sofia: restaurants, cafés, shops, and a local atmosphere.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Free walking tours also usually start here, which is a great option for a first historical introduction.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph"><img src="https://s.w.org/images/core/emoji/17.0.2/72x72/1f449.png" alt="👉" class="wp-smiley" style="height: 1em; max-height: 1em;" /> <a href="https://www.civitatis.com/ar/sofia/free-tour-sofia/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=PostSofia">Free tour in Sofia</a></p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">National Palace of Culture (NDK)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">About 900 meters along the boulevard, you’ll find the National Palace of Culture, inaugurated in 1981.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is one of the most representative buildings of the socialist period and currently operates as a congress and events center. In front of it, there is a large park with fountains, ideal for taking a break.</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sveta Nedelya Cathedral</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/08-Sofia.jpg" alt="qué ver en dos días en Sofía" class="wp-image-21454" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/08-Sofia.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/08-Sofia-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">On the way back toward the historic center, this Orthodox cathedral stands out for its large central dome.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Entry is free (it is an active place of worship). If you wish to take photos inside, they may ask for a small contribution.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A bombing took place here in 1925 that marked the country’s history.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Church of St. George (Rotunda)</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Just a few meters away stands the oldest preserved building in Sofia.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Built in the 4th century, during Roman times when the city was called Serdica, this small red-brick church preserves medieval frescoes and is a must-visit.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Statue of Sofia</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Before crossing toward the archaeological area, you’ll see this large statue inaugurated in 2000, which replaced a former statue of Lenin.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It has become one of the modern symbols of the city.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Church of Sveta Petka</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Small, partially sunken below the current street level, and with medieval frescoes inside. Many people walk past without noticing it.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Roman Ruins of Serdica</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Here you are literally walking over the ancient Roman city.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">You can explore remains of streets, houses, and walls. Access is free and helps you imagine the importance this city had during the imperial era.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Banya Bashi Mosque</h2>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/10-Sofia.jpg" alt="qué ver en dos días en Sofía" class="wp-image-21458" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/10-Sofia.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/10-Sofia-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Built in the 16th century during the Ottoman period, it is still an active mosque.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its name refers to the old thermal baths over which it was built.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Sofia Central Mineral Baths</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Right across from it are the former thermal baths, now converted into the Sofia History Museum.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Outside, it is still common to see people filling bottles at the mineral water fountains.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Central Market Hall</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">An early 20th-century building, recently restored.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">A good place to take a break, try something local, or simply observe everyday life.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Lions’ Bridge</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">About 600 meters from the market stands this 19th-century bridge guarded by four lion sculptures.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">It is a less touristy area, but interesting for understanding the city’s expansion.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Day 2 in Sofia: icons and monumental buildings</h2>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">City Garden</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The oldest park in the city.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">If you visit Sofia in March, you’ll see many people wearing red and white bracelets:</p>

<hr class="wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity"/>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-full"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="800" height="450" src="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/06-Sofia.jpg" alt="Qué ver en sofías" class="wp-image-21460" srcset="https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/06-Sofia.jpg 800w, https://europaacompanada.com/wp-content/uploads/2026/02/06-Sofia-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></figure>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Ivan Vazov National Theatre</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The most important theatre in Bulgaria, inaugurated in 1907.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Its neoclassical façade makes it one of the most photogenic buildings in Sofia.</p>

<h2 class="wp-block-heading">Royal Palace</h2>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">The former royal residence, now home to the National Art Gallery and the Ethnographic Museum.</p>

<p class="wp-block-paragraph">Russian Church of St. Nicholas</p>
