This land of rolling landscapes, endless vineyards, and medieval villages is the birthplace of the Renaissance, and Florence is its greatest exponent. More than just a Tuscan city, it&#8217;s the cultural and historical heart of the region, where art, architecture, and gastronomy reach their peak. We&#8217;ll soon have a road trip through Tuscany, but today we&#8217;ll delve into a three-day itinerary dedicated entirely to the city without any outside excursions. At the end of the video, we&#8217;ll leave options for those who have a few more days. Along the way, we visited the <strong>Galileo Museum<\/strong>. Although we didn&#8217;t go inside, the same thing we mentioned in Rome will happen here: there&#8217;s so much to see in every corner that we&#8217;ll be doing some things and leaving others as references. If you like science, you might be interested in this visit. Here you can see everything from Galileo&#8217;s original telescopes to inventions that changed the way we understand the world. Built in the 14th century to replace an earlier structure swept away by a flood, it has witnessed centuries of commerce and tradition. Originally, butchers and tanners occupied its stalls, but the Medici, in their eagerness to beautify Florence\u2014either for the smell or for safety (there are various versions)\u2014replaced them with jewelers, giving it that golden glow that still characterizes it today. It was the only bridge in the city to survive World War II. Walking across it is like traversing centuries of history in just a few meters, feeling the weight of the past in every cobblestone. And if you wait until sunset, you&#8217;ll see how the light transforms it into a golden postcard, as if it still held part of the Medici treasure.     <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Piazza_della_Signoria\"><\/span><strong>Piazza della Signoria<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-10.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18958\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-10.jpg 800w, https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-10-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Piazza della Signoria <\/strong>is the political and cultural heart of Florence, a monumental square steeped in history and art. Since the Middle Ages, it has been the center of power, dominated by the imposing <strong>Palazzo Vecchio<\/strong>, the seat of the Florentine government. Revolts, executions, and celebrations have taken place here over the centuries.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to its historical significance, the square is an open-air museum, featuring iconic sculptures such as a replica of<strong> Michelangelo&#8217;s David<\/strong>, the <strong>Fountain of Neptune<\/strong>, and the <strong>Loggia dei Lanzi<\/strong>, which houses stunning works of art. It&#8217;s a vibrant place where Florence&#8217;s past and present meet at every turn. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We would leave the Palazzo Vecchio for another visit on another day, as we would now head towards the Galleria della Accademia in search of it.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Piazza_del_Duomo\"><\/span><strong>Piazza del Duomo<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But you can&#8217;t miss the Duomo, its bell tower, and the baptistery on this walk. It leaves you speechless when you see it. We&#8217;d save our visit to the Duomo, the Cathedral of Santa Maria dei Fiori, for early tomorrow morning, because it&#8217;s best to go early to avoid the crowds, as we were going to climb the dome..  <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Accademia_Gallery\"><\/span><strong>Accademia Gallery<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-5-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-18928\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-5-1.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-5-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Today was a day to continue immersing ourselves in the art of Florence, and the Galleria della Accademia was the starting point for the day.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We chose a guided tour so we wouldn&#8217;t miss any details of Michelangelo&#8217;s David on display in this museum.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The entrance was very quick since accompanied by the guide we entered without delays<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>We don&#8217;t do all the guided tours of museums or galleries, but on some occasions we feel it&#8217;s necessary because of the information the guide provides, and in this case we feel that&#8217;s the case.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Book your <\/strong><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/es\/florencia\/visita-guiada-galeria-academia\/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=PostFLORENCIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">guided tour of the Accademia Gallery<\/a><\/em><\/strong> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Gallery&#8217;s birth dates back to 1784, when the Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo, reorganized the Academy of Fine Arts of Design, founded in 1563 by Cosimo I de&#8217; Medici, turning it into the modern Academy of Fine Arts.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The museum also houses other works by Michelangelo as well as various works by other Florentine artists from the 14th to the 16th century. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can<strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/es\/florencia\/visita-guiada-florencia-uffizi-academia\/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postFLORENCIA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> book a guided tour of Florence + the Accademia Gallery + the Uffizi Gallery,<\/a><\/em><\/strong> which is a good idea too!<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1280\" height=\"720\" src=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-3-1.jpg\" alt=\"Michelangelo Academy Gallery, Florence\" class=\"wp-image-18930\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-3-1.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/03\/Florencia-3-1-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1280px) 100vw, 1280px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em>Michelangelo&#8217;s David<\/em><\/strong> is one of the most iconic sculptures of the Renaissance. Carved in marble between 1501 and 1504, it depicts the biblical hero David before facing Goliath. Standing over 5 meters tall, it stands out for its detailed anatomical study, its expression of concentration, and the perfection of its proportions. Originally conceived for Florence Cathedral, its artistic impact led to its placement in the Piazza della Signoria. In 1873, it was moved to the Accademia Gallery, where it is now the museum&#8217;s main attraction. One of the liveliest corners of Florence is the <strong>Porcellino Market<\/strong>, famous for its leather and souvenir stalls as well as the iconic bronze boar fountain. According to tradition, if you rub its snout and drop a coin into its mouth, you&#8217;ll return to Florence. For this first day, we chose to visit the Palazzo Pitti Gardens and the Boboli Gardens. We could have scheduled this visit before the Galleria della Accademia to perhaps reduce the walking, but it was a matter of ticket times. You can arrange that based on your accommodations and the tour times.   <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The Palazzo Pitti<\/strong> is much more than a palace: it is a reflection of the power and grandeur of those who ruled Florence. Built in the 15th century for the wealthy Pitti family, it passed into the hands of the Medici, who made it their ducal residence, filling it with art, luxury, and the secrets of the Renaissance court. It soon became the new symbol of Medici power over Tuscany. It also housed the courts of two other dynasties: the House of Habsburg-Lorraine (which succeeded the Medici from 1737) and the kings of Italy of the House of Savoy, who lived there from 1865.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But the real gem is at the rear: <strong>the Boboli Gardens<\/strong>. More than just gardens, they are a universe of fountains, grottoes, and classical sculptures, designed to impress as much as the palace itself. Tip: The climbs to the dome and the campanile are via stairs; spreading them out may make it less tiring. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The three passes are: Bruneleschi Pass &#8211; Giotto Pass and Ghiberti Pass. They all include different things. The prices, Ghiberti Pass \u20ac 15, Giotto Pass \u20ac 20 and the one <strong>we bought Bruneleschi Pass <\/strong>\u20ac 30 and that gives you access to the dome, the campanile, Santa Maria Reparata, the baptistery and the Duomo museum, I would say that all are a must in Florence, <a href=\"https:\/\/tickets.duomo.firenze.it\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Official website Duomo Florence<\/a> <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When you purchase your pass, you must select a time slot for the dome only, and the pass is valid for three days from that day. Its octagonal design, clad in white and green marble, served as inspiration for many Renaissance buildings. But what truly makes it special is inside: a stunning golden mosaic ceiling depicting scenes from the Last Judgment, with a monumental image of Christ at its center.  <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And, of course, we can&#8217;t talk about the Baptistery without mentioning its famous <strong>Gates of Paradise<\/strong>. Designed by Lorenzo Ghiberti, these bronze doors are not only a masterpiece of Renaissance art, but also marked the beginning of a new era in the history of art. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s worth noting that the ones seen today in the Baptistery are replicas. Ghiberti&#8217;s original <strong>Gates of Paradise<\/strong>, after centuries of exposure to weather and pollution, were removed for conservation and are now housed in the <strong>Museo dell&#8217;Opera del Duomo<\/strong>, a museum included in the pass but which we&#8217;ll visit tomorrow. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We retrieved our backpacks from the luggage storage and continued walking along those charming streets for 400 meters until we reached<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Basilica_of_San_Lorenzo\"><\/span><strong>Basilica of San Lorenzo<\/strong><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Basilica of San Lorenzo<\/strong> is one of Florence&#8217;s oldest and most iconic churches. Its current construction, begun in 1422, was commissioned by the Medici family to architect Filippo Brunelleschi. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Inside, the basilica houses the <strong>Old Sacristy<\/strong>, designed by Brunelleschi, and the <strong>New Sacristy<\/strong>, the work of Michelangelo. It is also the resting place of prominent members of the Medici family, highlighting its historical and artistic importance. Located in the convent of the same name, this historic apothecary began as a place where the monks made medicinal products from herbs grown in their own garden. Located next to the majestic Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, this slender bell tower rises 84 meters above the Piazza del Duomo, offering a privileged view of the city and Brunelleschi&#8217;s iconic dome. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Designed by Giotto in 1334, the Campanile was conceived not only as a bell tower but also as a work of art in its own right. Its fa\u00e7ade, clad in white, green, and pink marble, follows the same aesthetic as the Duomo, creating an unmistakable visual harmony.
