Its streets are lined with historic buildings, the famous <em>colleges <\/em>of the University of Cambridge appear at every turn, and the River Cam offers some of the city&#8217;s most beautiful views. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We decided to <strong>spend a night in Cambridge<\/strong> and, what\u2019s more, to stay at <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.booking.com\/hotel\/gb\/selwyn-college-cambridge.es.html?aid=2008743&amp;no_rooms=1&amp;group_adults=2\">Selwyn College<\/a><\/em><\/strong>, to experience staying inside a <em>college<\/em>. If you have time, I think it\u2019s a really interesting option for enjoying the city at a more relaxed pace. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Although it\u2019s possible to visit Cambridge in a day, there\u2019s quite a lot to see. there\u2019s one image that represents Cambridge, it\u2019s probably that of <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kings.cam.ac.uk\/\">King\u2019s College<\/a><\/strong> and its spectacular chapel.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s one of the most famous <em>colleges<\/em> of the University of Cambridge and one of the must-see places in the city. Even if you don\u2019t have much time, I\u2019d try to stop by.  <\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-4.jpg\" alt=\"What to see in Cambridge. King's Chapel \" class=\"wp-image-22615\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-4.jpg 800w, https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-4-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Queens_College_and_the_Mathematical_Bridge\"><\/span>Queens\u2019 College and the Mathematical Bridge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another of the <em>colleges<\/em> worth visiting is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.queens.cam.ac.uk\/\">Queens\u2019 College<\/a><\/strong>, especially for the famous <strong>Mathematical Bridge<\/strong>, one of the most photographed spots in Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This is also where you begin to understand the importance of the River Cam to the city, something you appreciate even more during a <em>punting<\/em> trip.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"St_Johns_College\"><\/span>St John\u2019s College<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>St John\u2019s College<\/strong> is another of Cambridge\u2019s great <em>colleges<\/em> and one of the ones we included in our route.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its buildings, courtyards and gardens are among the prettiest sights in the city, but there\u2019s one thing I especially recommend: try to see it from the river too. The view of the <em>College Backs<\/em> completely changes the experience. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Trinity_College\"><\/span>Trinity College<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Another must-see is <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.trin.cam.ac.uk\/\">Trinity College<\/a><\/strong>, one of the best-known <em>colleges<\/em> in Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We visited it along with King\u2019s, Queens\u2019, St John\u2019s, Corpus Christi and Pembroke. I wouldn\u2019t try to visit all the <em>colleges<\/em> in the city: there are loads of them, and I think it\u2019s better to pick a few and leave time to wander around. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Corpus_Christi_College_and_the_Corpus_Clock\"><\/span>Corpus Christi College and the Corpus Clock<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At <strong>Corpus Christi College<\/strong> we also found one of those little spots worth knowing about: the <strong>Corpus Clock<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s on one of the outer walls of the <em>college<\/em>, so you can easily include it while exploring the centre of Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Pembroke_College\"><\/span>Pembroke College<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Pembroke College<\/strong> was another one we visited. In our case, we were able to go in and see its courtyards without paying, although it\u2019s a good idea to check the entry conditions before you go, as they may change. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Clare_College\"><\/span>Clare College <span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Founded in <strong>1326<\/strong>, Clare College is the second-oldest college in Cambridge. It\u2019s especially known for its <strong>bridge over the River Cam<\/strong>, one of the most photographed spots in the city, and for its riverside gardens. <\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Great_St_Marys\"><\/span>Great St Mary\u2019s<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Very close to King\u2019s College is <strong>Great St Mary\u2019s<\/strong>, another building worth including on a route around Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Its location, opposite King\u2019s, makes it easy to combine both places during a walk around the centre. You can climb up for some lovely views.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Round_Church\"><\/span>Round Church<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <strong>Round Church<\/strong>, officially the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, is easy to recognise thanks to its circular shape.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You don\u2019t need to spend too much time there, but we think it\u2019s an interesting stop if you\u2019re exploring the historic centre.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Market_Square\"><\/span>Market Square<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For a break from the <em>colleges<\/em>, you can head to <strong>Market Square<\/strong>, right in the heart of Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It\u2019s a good area for a stroll and to discover another side of the city, beyond the university buildings.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"St_Edward_King\"><\/span>St Edward King<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">During our walk we also passed by <strong>St Edward King<\/strong>. It\u2019s another of those places you can discover as you walk around the centre, and they help round off the visit. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Punting_on_the_River_Cam\"><\/span>Punting on the River Cam<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-5.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-22617\" srcset=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-5.jpg 800w, https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/09\/cambridge-5-768x432.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you ask me <strong>what to do in Cambridge<\/strong> and I have to pick just one experience, it\u2019s an easy choice: <strong>go punting on the River Cam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For us, it was without a doubt <strong>the best thing about Cambridge<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The boat trip lets you see the famous <strong>College Backs<\/strong> from the water, passing the rear grounds of some of the most important <em>colleges<\/em>. After seeing them on foot, viewing them from the river offers a completely different perspective. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And yes, <strong>it\u2019s well worth it<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We booked the trip on the spot; prices vary depending on the time, and you may be able to get a discount. If you\u2019d rather have it all arranged before you go, you can also book the boat trip in advance. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.civitatis.com\/ar\/cambridge\/paseo-barca-cambridge\/?aid=10563&amp;cmp=postCambridge\">Boat trip on the River Cam<\/a><\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"A_one-day_itinerary_for_Cambridge\"><\/span>A one-day itinerary for Cambridge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you only have one day to visit Cambridge, we would organise the visit in a fairly simple way to discover what to see in Cambridge.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I\u2019d start the morning with a <strong>free tour<\/strong>, which is exactly what we did. We found it a good way to learn about the city\u2019s history and get our bearings before carrying on by ourselves. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.guruwalk.com\/es\/walks\/12311-free-tour-cambridge-descubre-la-ciudad-y-su-universidad?ref=n93obcj34xm5opk6kw4d\">FREE TOUR OF CAMBRIDGE<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then you can tour some of the most important <em>colleges<\/em>, such as <strong>King\u2019s, Queens\u2019, St John\u2019s, Trinity, Corpus Christi and Pembroke<\/strong>, combining them with Market Square, Great St Mary\u2019s and the Round Church.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For lunch, we made a quick stop at <strong>The Eagle<\/strong>, one of Cambridge\u2019s historic pubs.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In the afternoon I\u2019d leave time for <strong>punting on the River Cam<\/strong>. For us it was the highlight of the trip and an experience we wouldn\u2019t miss. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Afterwards you can head back to the centre, look for the <strong>Corpus Clock<\/strong>, grab something at <strong>Fitzbillies<\/strong> and end the day with dinner. We chose <strong>Honest Burgers<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Where_to_stay_in_Cambridge\"><\/span>Where to stay in Cambridge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We decided to <strong>spend a night in Cambridge<\/strong>, and to do so at <strong>Selwyn College<\/strong>. We wanted to experience staying inside a <em>college<\/em>, and it was a different way to enjoy the city. That\u2019s how we started. <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>If you can, stay overnight.<\/strong> We took the opportunity to stay at Selwyn College and really enjoyed the experience.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Leave time to wander aimlessly.<\/strong> Cambridge is also enjoyable beyond the places that appear on every must-see list.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And it\u2019s fine if you miss a <em>college<\/em> or two. We, for example, left without seeing Clare. <\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"In_summary_what_to_see_in_Cambridge\"><\/span>In summary: what to see in Cambridge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re planning a route around Cambridge, I\u2019d prioritise <strong>King\u2019s College, Queens\u2019, St John\u2019s, Trinity, Corpus Christi and Pembroke<\/strong>, as well as Great St Mary\u2019s, the Round Church, Market Square and the Corpus Clock.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But above all, <strong>I\u2019d set aside a few hours to go punting on the River Cam<\/strong>. After our visit, it\u2019s the experience we recommend most and the one we think truly completes a visit to Cambridge. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And if you have the chance to stay overnight, doing so in a <em>college<\/em>, as we did at Selwyn, can turn a simple day trip into a much more special experience.<\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_get_to_Cambridge_from_London\"><\/span>How to get to Cambridge from London<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The easiest way to get to Cambridge from <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/europaacompanada.com\/en\/london-itinerary-in-5-days-complete-day-by-day-route\/\">London<\/a><\/em><\/strong> is <strong>by train<\/strong>. It\u2019s a quick and comfortable option, especially if you want to visit the city in a day. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Trains leave from <strong>London King\u2019s Cross<\/strong> and <strong>London Liverpool Street<\/strong>, depending on the service you choose, and arrive at Cambridge station. From there you can walk to the historic centre in a few minutes. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">We went by train and we think it\u2019s the best option if you\u2019re doing a day trip to Cambridge from London. Plus, since you don\u2019t have to worry about parking, you can start exploring the city practically as soon as you arrive. <\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019re going there and back on the same day, I recommend checking the timetables in advance and choosing a train that lets you make the most of the day, especially if you want to do the free tour and set aside time for punting.<\/p>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can rent a car with <strong><em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.discovercars.com\/go\/europa\">Discovercars<\/a><\/em><\/strong>; it\u2019s a good option for this visit if you\u2019re going to continue touring the United Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Frequently_asked_questions_about_Cambridge\"><\/span>Frequently asked questions about Cambridge<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can you visit Cambridge in a day?<\/strong><br\/>Yes.
