Day trips from Paris

Taking a day trip from Paris if you have more days in the city is a great option, but… Which place should you choose? Go on an organized tour or go on your own?

Without further ado, let’s choose a day trip from Paris!

First of all, I want to clarify that I personally am not a big fan of visiting places just for the day. Of the places we are going to talk about, I stayed one night in most of them. But sometimes it is the time we have and we have to make the most of it, so that is what today is about.

First option day trip from Paris:

Mont Saint Michel

Mont Saint Michel can be a day trip from Paris

A beauty in every sense of the word. We have different options to go, on a pre-arranged excursion  that can be with a Spanish-speaking guide, and with food included or without a guide or food, or on our own by train combining with a bus.

The excursions leave very early from Paris around 7 am, arriving at noon at Mont Saint Michel.

The tour will take you first through the small streets of the mountain, to then access the abbey, the entrance to it is €11 but they are usually included in the excursions. ►Skip-the-line entrance to the abbey

On your own you can make the journey by train to Pontorson  and from there a bus to the mountain, it will depend on the transfer but in about 4/5 hours you will arrive at the mountain.

The excursion is around €150, in the case of train tickets about 60/70 euros but it depends a lot on the dates and it is also difficult to get a good combination of schedules to be able to spend the day.

The place is wonderful, one of the most beautiful places in France. If you want more detailed information about it, see our post► Guide to visiting Mont Saint Michel

Let’s go to the second excursion option from Paris, visit Bruges

Bruges (Belgium)

In this case we leave France and go to Belgium, (for this option we will take into account the health moment since we are going to change country and the entry and stay requirements may change, as well as documents for exit and entry).

What can we say about this city of canals? It seems to come out of a fairy tale. The walk will take place walking through this medieval city as well as embarking on its canals.

This is a popular day trip from Paris. They also leave very early, around 7 in the morning, arriving in Bruges a little before midday. Upon return, around 4/5 pm, they set off to arrive in Paris at night.

You have the option of a guided tour in Spanish, or, if you prefer, an audio guide. These may also include a walk along the canals, but if not, it costs €8. Check all of this information with the tour you choose, as I am giving general information and not all are the same.

►What to see in Bruges

On your own by train, although it usually takes about three hours, it can be a bit cumbersome since in some cases you have to change.

Check the cost and schedules of the train journey on your dates

The excursion costs around €140, in the case of train tickets around 70/80 euros and the journey will take around three hours. Train prices are always very difficult to estimate because they depend a lot on the dates, the timetable and the type of train.

Let’s go to the third option of day trips from Paris

Loire Valley Castles

Sully sur Loire

The castles of the Loire are something to dream of. There are also day trips to visit this area, although there is so much to see here that the ideal would be to be able to stay.

Well, we are looking at possibilities and a trip from Paris is one of them. They leave from Paris very early and generally visit the castles of Chambord, Chenonceau, and Clos Luce or Ambois, there are also wine tastings, you will find different options.

The total tour, like all the others, will take the whole day, usually leaving Paris very early and returning in the late afternoon

While there are several options in English, they also have a guide in Spanish or an audio guide.

Cheverny Day Trip from Country
Cheverny Castle

We will not take into account the train option because this route has several different places and for the day it is not worth going, because if you have more days, yes, it is a nice walk.

Next destination on these day trip options from Paris:

Normandy landing beaches

Normandy, France
Les Braves Monument on Omaha Beach

For those who like historical tours, this is a good option. The problem with these tours is that most have an English-speaking guide, but if that’s not a problem for you, go ahead, it’s a good tour and going with someone who can give us historical information is a good option.

What to see on the Normandy landing beaches

The schedules are generally departure at 7 a.m. with arrival in Paris around 9 p.m., and prices are somewhat higher, around €190

In this case the same thing happens as with the tour of the castles, doing it on your own would lead to having to stay at least one night in one of the cities to be able to organize yourself well

Giverny and Reims

We haven’t done the next day trip options from Paris yet, so I’ll leave you with just the idea. The first would be Giverny to Monet’s house. It’s a shorter excursion, lasting 5 hours in total and costs around €70.

The visit will be to the house of the painter Claude Monte and its gardens.

The other option is a visit to Reims and the champagne area. The visit will be to the cathedral of Reims, a tour of the vineyard routes, and entrance to wineries, such as Mum winery for example.

This is also an all-day visit, they leave around 8 in the morning returning at about 6/7 pm.

The price of the excursion is around €170.

By fast train in 45 minutes you will be in Reims and you can visit its cathedral. Ticket prices are around €36 round trip, in all cases calculated with return. As I told you before, prices depend on several factors.

Versailles

To say goodbye, we have not mentioned going to Versailles in this selection of day trips from Paris. The option is also valid if you want to take a day trip, but I think it is something you will want to do more on your own, given that some tourist passes even include the entrance fee.
