Heathrow London, how to get from the airport to the city centre

Heathrow Airport is the largest airport in London, and if you have arrived here you are probably wondering how to get from there to the centre of London.

There are several ways to get around the city. We will first tell you how we did it and then move on to the other options.

Heathrow/London Underground

The metro is the cheapest way to get around, although it takes about 45 minutes, depending on which station you go to.

The airport is very well signposted, so after going through immigration and collecting your luggage, follow the signs to the Underground.

The line to take is the Piccadilly Line, it is convenient at that time to get the Oyster Card, the card to travel on the metro, with it the trips will be somewhat cheaper than getting the single tickets. ►About Oyster Card

The transfer from the airport to London by tube is about £6, and the timetable runs from 5am on weekdays and 7am on weekends to 11.30pm. To check the timetables for any changes, tube maps or other information, please see the link to the city’s transport page, Transport of London.

I repeat, it is very well signposted until you find the metro station, having stations in terminals 4 and 5, as well as a shared station between terminals 2 and 3.

Once on the metro you will make the necessary connections to get to the station closest to your accommodation.

In our case we were going to Victoria Station, so we took the Picadilly Line to South Kensington Station, and from there the District Line or Circle Line to Victoria Station. The London Underground is easy to use and you won’t have any problems using the maps.

The metro is not the only way to get from the airport to the city.

The options besides the underground are the National Express bus, or the Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect (Tfl) trains. Of course, you also have taxis or transfers if you want to make the trip more comfortable, although the prices are obviously higher (between £50 and £90 approximately).

Prices are estimated average prices. In the case of the underground, it is the price of a single ticket, if you buy it with the Oyster Card, it will be a little cheaper. This will depend on the time of the journey, the price of the tickets varies by hour, being more expensive at peak times, and also depending on the areas you travel to.

In the case of the Heathrow Express you can get very, very good discounts by booking several days in advance.
