Travel companions, today we arrive at a Portuguese beach known for its big waves and loved by surfers, Nazaré.
About 120 kilometres from Lisbon and nestled in the Atlantic Ocean, Nazaré welcomes us to spend some pleasant moments.
This tourist site was, like many others, a fishing village, a tradition that it still maintains.
It is famous for the large waves that form on its coast and what makes it an attractive and interesting centre for surfers, although we can say that in Nazaré this is not the only attraction that we are going to find, and a few hours there will lead us to discover some of them.
The bay with its large amount of sand, takes us for a walk along its promenade, to see the restaurants and shops, but if we look to the right we will find a very high promontory, the Sitio, from which we will get spectacular views of Nazaré.
So once we have walked along the beach, the Avenida República, and its promenade we will go up, in our case by car, to find an older Nazaré, the place where this city was born. You can also go up with the funicular and in a few minutes you will be at the top.
The Church of Our Lady of Nazaré dominates the scene, it imposes itself at this height. Built in the seventeenth century in Baroque style, admission is free.
But a number of people enjoying the day make us go to one of the viewpoints that we will have here, the Suberco viewpoint. And the views of that bay in which we have just been are simply magnificent
We continue the walk, a deer with the body of a surfer and a large antler welcomes us.
At the top there is a fort, Fort San Miguel and the Nazaré Lighthouse. You can enter, the cost of admission is 2 euros.
Once you arrive at this point, the views of the North Beach are impressive.
How to get to Nazaré
You can access here from Lisbon by bus service, the journey takes about two hours.
