There are many places that we are discovering in Portugal, today we take you to a
small medieval town where charm took over its streets within the wall.
Travel companions, welcome to Óbidos!
Less than 90 kilometers from Lisbon we find this town, Óbidos, which had a strategic importance due to its height and proximity to the Atlantic Ocean.
As soon as we pass the wall we can imagine its streets in the time when it was the property of the Queen of Portugal, such was the tradition of receiving it as a wedding gift. Time seems to have stopped there, its castle, cobbled streets, white houses and several churches surprise us along the way.
Taking a free tour in Óbidos is a nice option
It is a small town that can be explored in just a few hours, but it is worth every minute spent there. Óbidos is definitely a visit worth making in Portugal.
When we went there was a festival, the Literary Festival, perhaps that was why the streets were so charming, there was a lot of movement, the band playing, people enjoying themselves, those travelling gifts that you sometimes find in the least expected place.
We visited it in passing and we would continue on our way, but I assure you that we entered and did not want to leave, everything came together to make it an unforgettable few hours.
The aqueduct welcomed us and then the wall, the latter of which can be climbed and explored in its entirety, it is a must if you don’t suffer from vertigo.
As I was saying, we found several churches along the way, one of them converted into a bookstore, the Church of Santiago.
A break along the way, a breakfast that we had not had in order to arrive early to Óbidos was a good idea to enjoy the town more.
Shops selling souvenirs, sweets and chocolates line the cobbled streets. Among the things to try in this beautiful setting are ginjinha, a cherry liqueur served in a chocolate cup, and Bomboca, a sweet with a meringue heart covered in chocolate.
In short, Óbidos is a nice option for a visit in Portugal
How to get to Óbidos?
You can get to Óbidos from Lisbon by bus. The tour takes about an hour and the current cost is around €9 each way.

But you can also do it on an excursion from Lisbon, which is around 70 to 90 euros depending on what it includes.
