Mojácar is a charming corner in the province of Almería. A tour that we love to do, a display of beauty before our eyes, as well as flavors in the good restaurants that we find there.
Just 90 kilometres from the city of Almería, located in the Levante Almeriense region, in the autonomous community of Andalusia, Mojácar welcomed us with all its charm and captivated us, just as the entire province of Almería did.
Mojácar town and Mojácar beach are the two very distinct areas that we found. We chose to stay in the town and go out to explore the little streets that are a pleasure to get lost in, and then explore the 17 kilometres of beach that it has.

How to get there?
If you have decided to do it by car, we tell you that you are approximately 550 kilometers from Madrid, 740 km from Barcelona, 300 from Malaga and 90 km from the city of Almeria.
If you have decided to do it by train, you can go to the Almería station and then take the bus to Mojácar.
The nearest airport is also in Almería, 80 kilometres from Mojácar.

We were in Barcelona , and we flew to Malaga, there we rented a car that would accompany us on this tour of southern Spain that we would start in Mojácar.
Where to stay?
You can stay in Mojácar town or on the beaches. We chose to do it in the village and enjoy the charm of its streets and the tranquility that we find in the month of October.
Our choice was Hostal El Olivar, we chose it as we always do by looking on the booking pages, and it was a success. The simplicity and warmth of the place and the dedication with which we were received and treated during the short but beautiful stay was spectacular.
Where to eat?
As it was also a very good option and it was recommended to us right there in the town, I’ll tell you about it, we had dinner at La Candela. The atmosphere is beautiful, the food is very good and the service is also good.
All these details that I am telling you, such as where to stay or where to eat, if they are good options, make the visit stand out. I am convinced that a destination that captivates us is not only made up of beautiful places, but also of good flavours, sensations, and the warmth of its people. None of this was missing in Mojácar or in the rest of Almería.

What to see?
Mojacar has a rich and varied cultural legacy. Although the only recommendation is to walk, on that walk we will find….
►The Church of Santa María, built in 1560, probably on the site of an old Arab mosque, and the statue of the Mojaquera located next to the church
►Plaza del Parterre, it is believed that this square was an ancient Arab necropolis.
►The new square and its viewpoint from where you get beautiful views of the valley.
►The Castle viewpoint, from where you get beautiful views of the beaches.
►Casa de la Canana Museum, a tour of a typical Mojaquera house.
► Fuente Mora, where the capitulation of Mojácar took place.
►The Plaza del Ayuntamiento and the city gate.

We also remember that we have the Mojácar beach area, kilometres of good coastline to enjoy in summer. We took a short tour as it was October.
The Indalo
The figure of the Indalo represents a man holding a kind of bow over his head.
This characteristic rock symbol of Almería has its origin in the caves and shelters found in the Sierra María-Los Vélez Natural Park. This Neolithic cave painting is found inside the Cueva de Los Letreros and is the oldest symbol in Andalusia. Since 1998 it has been protected by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
For centuries it has been considered a symbol of good luck, and the inhabitants of Mojácar painted it on their houses to protect them from storms and the evil eye, becoming known as the “mojaquero doll”. Today it is already the symbol of all the people of Almería, its use is widespread as a talisman of good luck and protection of the home. According to popular belief, it is believed that the Indalo is stronger in its luck when it is given to another person.

Is Mojácar one of the most beautiful towns in Andalusia? Without a doubt, yes, and it is also included among the most beautiful towns in Spain. As you have seen in the previous photos, it has a very special charm, and as you walk around you find some wonderful corners.
