Travel companions, welcome to some of the beautiful towns and cities that Andalusia has to offer

These towns and cities are truly a photograph, each one of them, they have places where you are left in ecstasy before the image. So let’s quickly go through them. Just to clarify that this is a selection of those we know, and the order is random. We know that there are countless more and we hope to be able to visit them very soon.

Marbella

A tour of the old town of Marbella will dazzle us and make us fall in love with every step.

Your steps will guide you on this tour, the Plaza de los Naranjos will captivate you with its colour and movement, and the pedestrian streets will facilitate this tour that I am sure you will fall in love with.

I think we often think of Marbella as a beach-only destination, and rightly so, but if you also like colorful little streets, take some time to take this walk.

Located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, on the Costa del Sol, the municipality of Marbella is the second most populated in the province of  Málaga.

In the 9th century, with the construction of the Alcazaba Castle in Marbella, the city began to form around it. This was made up of narrow streets and small buildings with large courtyards.

When Muslim Marbella was taken by the Catholic Monarchs in 1485, the town abandoned the walled enclosure to spread throughout the area.

Visitors to Marbella are looking for exclusivity, luxury, the beauty of its beaches, shopping and lifestyle, but Marbella’s historic centre also has numerous places of interest to discover its history and culture.

As we said, the Plaza de los Naranjos stands out, as well as the Church of Santa María de la Encarnación, the rest of the walls of the Castle, and all those charming corners.

60 kilometers separate it from the city of Malaga, so if you are by car it is a good visit. You have buses that depart from the bus station in Malaga.

Frigiliana

Beautiful villages of Andalusia

Welcome to one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia, Frigiliana!

Frigiliana has Muslim roots that have been reflected in its urban layout, with its narrow streets and steep slopes, streets that make them a delight to walk through.

Frigiliana is one of the most charming white villages in Malaga. Awarded the National Beautification Award in 1982, its historic centre has been a Historic-Artistic Site since 2014.

Although we have visited it only for the day, it is one of those places where staying seems to have a special charm.

The Frigiliana Three Cultures Festival is held annually in the Andalusian municipality , it is a series of events organized by the city council and that pays tribute to the legacy that Islamic, Jewish and Christian culture have left in medieval Spain, through gastronomy and music, for example.

It is located in Malaga less than 10 kilometres from Nerja, and about 60 kilometres from the city of Malaga.

A recommendation?, walk aimlessly, let the town make you fall in love, and I assure you that it will do it in just a minute.

Excursion to Frigiliana from Nerja

As we said, Frigiliana is one of the most beautiful white villages in the province of Malaga, a town that arises from the mixture of three cultures.

This tour of Frigiliana and Nerja, which we will see later, can also be done on a tour from Malaga if you prefer not to do it on your own.

If you decide to arrive on your own by car or bus, in the latter case you will have to take the bus towards Nerja, and once there take the Nerja-Frigiliana bus. The total duration of the journey from Malaga if they leave from there is about two hours.

Mijas village

Beautiful villages of Andalusia

It is located on the  Costa del Sol, 34 kilometres from Malaga and just 7 kilometres from Fuengirola. It is a beautiful white village nestled in the mountains, it is one of the most beautiful villages in Andalusia and one that deserves a quiet tour.

Mijas was a small town dedicated mainly to agriculture and fishing, but over the years tourism and the construction sector have been the driving forces of the local economy.

There will also be no shortage of flower pots with colorful flowers, souvenirs that call to us from shops open to tourists, corners that seem lost until we find them, and a crowd at certain times, because so much beauty draws many to the event.

A labyrinth of narrow and colorful streets awaited us in Mijas, and we were determined to walk through them, I also think it is a very good plan to stay even if it is for a night in it.

Donkey taxis are something you will see a lot in this town. I have not used them because it goes against what I think, but they are undoubtedly something characteristic of this place.

Júzcar or the Blue Village is located in the west of the province in the Genal Valley, and is one of the towns that make up the region of the Serranía de Ronda.

In June 2011 , the world premiere of the film The Smurfs took place in the town. A Madrid advertising agency that collaborated in the launch of the film with Sony Pictures Releasing, had the idea of painting all its houses blue and thus receive the premiere.  On December 18, 2011 , the people of Juzcar, in a popular consultation, decided to extend the painting of their facades in blue.

It is a curiosity and that is why we go here, if you are in the area it is a somewhat special place to visit, beyond the fact that their relationship with the Smurfs is nothing more than the decoration of it.

And we left this town in Malaga and moved to Almeria.

Mojácar town

We have dedicated a special post to this town. So if you like the images of this beautiful town in Andalusia, we leave the post here so you can discover it in depth.

It is located 70 kilometres from the city of Almería. Mojácar has a rich and varied cultural legacy and the recommendation is to get lost in its streets until you find, apart from the charm of the streets, the statue of the Mojáquera, the Church of Santa María, the Plaza del Parterre, the Plaza Nueva and its viewpoint, among other charming places.

As I said, I don’t have much more to add since we have a complete post about it, telling you about the accommodation, where we ate, and what we saw both in Mojácar town and in Mojácar beach. ►What to see and do in Mojácar

Mojácar

Setenil de las Bodegas

Setenil de las Bodegas belongs to the province of Cádiz, is part of the route of the white villages and is declared one of the most beautiful villages in Spain and therefore is one of the beautiful villages of Andalusia.

The images speak for themselves, it is a town that seems to be fused with the rock.

We have dedicated a whole post to Setenil telling us about the place in detail and talking about our accommodation in a cave house, where we ate and more details, so we are not going to go into detail about it. ►What to see in Setenil de las Bodegas

I simply tell them that walking and walking getting lost in this town is the key to enjoying it, we did it and we were amazed by it.

We leave this town and go to a coastal town.

Nerja

Nerja is a tourist destination on the Costa del Sol, receiving a large number of visitors from all over the world who go in search of its beaches and the charm of its streets.

It is a very picturesque town with its unique Balcón de Europa, the caves of Nerja and its magical corners.

Free tour of Nerja

We have also dedicated a complete post to Nerja showing the beautiful places it has and the locations that were used in the 80s series Verano Azul. So if either of the two things are of interest to you ►Nerja, Blue Summer

The streets of Nerja are lively both day and night and you won’t want to miss them.

Since we are in a beach destination we are going to show you another one but in the province of Granada

Almuñécar

Almuñécar is a city and municipality located on the  Costa Granadina, in the province of Granada. It is located on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea and is very close to the recently visited Nerja.

The Peñón del Santo stands out in the city, it is a beautiful viewpoint to observe it and its coast carefully.

If you like the beach it is a nice option. ►Find accommodation in Almuñécar

I would add Ronda to this varied selection of beautiful towns in Andalusia, about which we already have a complete post. A place worth not missing.

What to see and do in Ronda. Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol would also be added.

And the incomparable Cordoba, Seville, Malaga, Granada and Cadiz, cities that undoubtedly need a separate post each, but not naming them here would be very unfair.

I repeat what I told you at the beginning, these are just some of the places that we know and we believe that they deserve to be taken into account when visiting Andalusia.

What if there are more?, lots of them!, they dare to leave us some that they would add, I know that the list will be endless, but we would love to add them on a next visit to Spain.

Travel companions, what did you think of this small sample of Andalusia?
